Minimally Invasive Hysterectomy

A hysterectomy is sometimes necessary for a woman who's experiencing heavy menstruation, possibly due to endometriosis or another condition that affects the uterus. While surgical removal of an organ is often a cause for concern in a patient, Dr. Anya Rose and Dr. Megan Gau of Rose Women's Health, serving Arcadia, CA, and the surrounding region, can offer a minimally invasive hysterectomy to some patients.

Benefits of a Minimally Invasive Hysterectomy

With a minimally invasive hysterectomy, you have minimal scarring, unlike a traditional hysterectomy. Typically, a minimally invasive procedure requires less time. You can even return home sooner from the hospital than you would with a traditional hysterectomy. It also tends to be less painful.

Special Considerations

Some women aren't candidates for a minimally invasive hysterectomy and will need to have a traditional one. Those include those who have or have had reproductive cancer. Women who've had multiple lower abdominal operations or who have a large uterus are also not candidates in most cases.

Prior to recommending a surgery type for a hysterectomy, our practitioner will have you complete a medical history report and undergo testing, much of which can be completed in our Arcadia, CA, office.

Surgical Options

Minimally invasive hysterectomies include multiple options. The one right for you depends on your particular situation. Some options are better suited for some patients than others.

One option is a laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy, which uses a tiny camera inserted into the body. Our practitioner can then view the uterus and nearby organs. Then, your surgeon will use make small incisions and insert surgical tools through them to detach the uterus. The practitioner can then remove the uterus and cervix through the vagina.

Your practitioner may recommend a laparoscopic hysterectomy, which uses small incisions in the abdomen and navel. Then, she'll use surgical tools to detach the uterus and cervix and remove them. This can be done on an outpatient basis.

Your surgeon may advise you to have a vaginal hysterectomy, which consists of her making an incision in the top of the vagina and removing the uterus and cervix through it.

Dr. Rose and Dr. Gau of Rose Women's Health, serving Arcadia, CA, and the nearby region, offer options to women who need a hysterectomy. Both practitioners work with patients to find a solution that'll work the best for the patient.
